The Perfect Wedding Cake
The wedding cake is not only for eating after the meal, but it is a decoration as well. You need to keep that in mind when deciding on the cake.
Ask around and see if any of your friends have had any experiences with bakeries. Or it could be that you may find someone who specializes in making cakes in their home. As with the other vendors, make sure that you schedule far enough in advance.

Your cake will be the focal point of your reception, but it must taste good as well to be a complete hit! Whoever is making your cake should offer up some samples for tasting.
Check your budget. Cakes can cost anywhere from free (if someone you know makes it) to $1,000.00 or more. I would make sure that delivery is included. You would not want to spend a fortune on a cake and then ruin it on the way to the reception. Even if you have to pay extra for delivery, I would look at it as insurance.
When placing your cake at the reception, think about where it will look the best, but keep in mind that you do not want it too close to the traffic. Also keep the temperature in mind. You will not want it sitting in the sun or directly under hot lights. And most importantly, make sure that it is on a sturdy table. Someone may be leaning on the table as they are cutting it and serving it. Also, make sure that there is room for you and your new spouse to cut the cake, with a good profile for the crowd, and a place for the photographer.
And speaking of cutting, make sure that you have a good plan for who is going to cut the cake and how they are going to do it. You should ask the baker about how to separate the top layer from the rest. Most of the time, the top layer will be removed before you cut the first piece. That is what you will eat on your first anniversary.
Keep these tips in mind when planning and purchasing your perfect wedding cake, and you will be on your way to a smooth and enjoyable reception.
