Make Your Perfect Wedding Unique!
25 years ago when I stated in the wedding business, most weddings were basically the same. Not the case today. Everyone wants their wedding to be unique. Seems like everyone is trying to outdo each other.
The purpose of this post is to get you thinking. There is no way that I or anyone else could cover all of the different ways to make your wedding unique. That is because the possibilities are endless! For as many people as there are getting married, that is how many unique ways there could be!
The first is to have a unique theme. Theme weddings are big. Your theme could be a person, place, or thing that you and your new spouse can relate to. There could be an endless amount of ways to tie it all together, and carry the theme all the way from start to finish.
The place that you have your wedding or reception, could make yours unique. People have been married everywhere from ballparks, to flea markets, to malls, to McDonalds, and everywhere in between. Let your imagination run wild! The days of having the wedding in the church and the reception in the basement are gone.
Photos are an excellent place to have some creativity. Make sure that your photographer is an ARTIST and is very creative. If you have things that may surprise him, make sure to give him advance notice. In this computer age, there are many things that can be done back in the office. Spend some extra time on this one!
Write your own vows. This is almost a standard now, instead of a unique feature. You really should write your own vows and put a lot of thought into it. I have really been impressed by some of the heart felt vows I have witnessed.
After the ceremony, they used to throw rice. I think that tradition is just about gone. Bad for the birds. Here again is a good chance to be unique. I have seen such things as ballons being turned loose, to doves, bubbles and sparklers at night.
Transportation to the reception. This is a great place for a big surprise for your guests. I witnessed a parade to the reception (that was of course within walking distance) that included bagpipes. It was awesome. Of course you could do the vintage car, horse and carriage, motorcycle, boat, or anything else that you could come up with. My sister rode away on a camel. And yes I was shocked. Haven’t seen that one since.
At the reception you will want something to keep your guests occupied while you are getting those church photos. I like the “through the ages” groups of photos or the power point presentations. They can both make awesome conversation starters.
Disposable cameras on the tables is a must have. You are almost guaranteed to get some great shots that you would not have gotten!
Cake toppers are a whole new world for creativity. Follow your theme. Use your respective careers. Think about some comedy. These are easy to find, or you could make your own if you can’t find one that you like.
One of the best ideas that I have seen is to have special friends make centerpieces for the reception. Give them some small guidelines, but leave them room for creativity. Tell them to make something that shows how they think about you. This will also save you some money!
Unique favors are always a big hit. My personal favorite is something that they can take home and use forever. Then they will always think of you when they use it!
Your first dance. It can be boring and cute or uniquely yours! Check this couple out:
I hope that this post has made you think of some things to make your perfect wedding a day for everyone to remember, because it was unique and yours alone! The internet has opened a world of ideas to get you started. Good luck!
